How Dogs Show Their Love

Happy Valentine’s Day!  With love in the air, we know there’s no better Valentine than your furry best friend.  You are their favourite Valentine, too!  Here are a few examples of how your pup shows you their love!

Why, hello!
Your dog is excited to see you! Whether it’s 2 minutes or 2 hours, your dog is happy to see you.  The greetings from a dog are like none other.

Don’t go too far!
Physical contact is a must.  Whether it be affection or just a lean, cuddle, or nuzzle, your dog seeks it out.  This proves that they feel safe and loved in your presence.  They will check up on you wherever you go so they will never be too far.  Sleeping in the same bed is a must, too!

Look into my eyes …
Eye contact can hold a great bond.  When your dog looks at you, their brain releases the “love hormone” oxytocin. This is the same hormone that is released when a new mother is first bonding with their baby.

You smell really good.
Scents are important to dogs.  They would carry around your smelly shoe or stinky sock in a heartbeat.  In fact, they are attached to your scent so pretty much anything from you would smell good! Now that’s love.
