March 23rd is National Puppy Day! Is this not the cutest day ever to celebrate? It’s a known fact that just looking at pictures of cute animals is good for your health, so get those puppy pictures rolling!
In honour of National Puppy Day, we wanted to give you some facts that you may not have known about puppies!
Did you know that:
Puppies are born without teeth. They get their baby teeth around 2 weeks of age. Between 12-14 weeks these baby teeth fall out and they should have a set of 42 adult teeth by the time they are 6 months old.
Puppies are born blind and deaf. They don’t open their eyes until usually 2 weeks of age. Their sense of smell is what helps them navigate through the world to find their mom until then.
Newborn puppies can’t poop! They rely on their mom to help them with their bathroom needs.
The number of puppies that a mother has depends on the breed. A litter size can range between 1-12 puppies, with 5-6 being the average litter size.
Sleep is a must for puppies! They tend to sleep 15-20 hours a day. That may seem like a lot, but think of all that growing they are doing in such a short amount of time. They need their rest!
Our old furry friends will always be our puppies too. To celebrate this cute holiday, show off some pictures of your furry friend on social media, take a long walk together, buy a special treat for them and just enjoy the day together!
