Being in pain is no fun, and not being able to vocalize what or where hurts would be excruciatingly frustrating. As a pet parent, it is one of our first jobs to be in tune with our pets. When we are in sync with and aware of them, it is easier to know at the first warning sign that something is off. This can help us alleviate the pain our pet is in, as well as find the warning signs of a potentially serious concern.
September is “Animal Pain Awareness Month”. Here are some indicators of potential pet pain to help you care for your furry friend.
- Change in appetite.
- Heavy breathing/panting.
- Grooming changes. Licking or biting in a certain area.
- Aggression.
- Sleeping more than usual and decrease in activity level.
- Shaking.
If your pet shows any of these signs, your best course of action is to seek veterinarian help. Make notes about when the symptoms started, and never give unsubscribed pain medication. You are your pet’s voice when it comes to health.
