Today is a good day to celebrate Poodles, it’s National Poodle Day after all! In celebration of our curly haired friends, we wanted to share five fun facts about this lovable breed!
- Poodles are intelligent
If you didn’t know, poodles are one of (if not the) smartest dog breed. Because of their intelligence, poodles can be very easy to train. This means that you may have to provide a lot of mental stimulation for your poodle in order for them to be content and relaxed. - There is a reason behind their hairstyle
When Poodles were used for hunting and swimming through ponds to retrieve game, owners would ensure their dogs had enough fur to keep them warm but would not hold them down in water. The classic “poodle cut” provides this! - Poodles are hypoallergenic
If you’re allergic to dogs but still want a dog, a poodle could be an option for you! Thir hair sheds less often than other dogs, but they still require regular grooming as their skin can accumulate just as much dander and allergens as other breeds. - They come in 3 sizes!
There’s a size for everyone! Poodles can be Standard (full sized), Miniature, or Toy. - A Poodle Team once ran in the Iditarod Race
The Iditarod is a long-distance sled dog race held in Alaska. As you can imagine, the team of Poodles did not fair too well as they were not built for such a race and in such cold conditions. This team of Poodles is the reason why a rule was put in place that only Northern breeds were allowed in the Iditarod.
